Yesterday I'll say a total of 64 gallons.

The last time my cellar flooded I used the wet/dry and when it was full used my submersible pump that is used for my pool and put it into the wet dry and pumped it into the drain for my washer.


He will dump the vac 8 times and find 26 cents in the water.

You know, that's a good idea on the pumping out of the vac. We can get a bigger wet/dry that way. Right now he's reduced to destroying the washing machine.... he's dumping it in there and pumping it out with the spin cycle but I can just run a hose out with the pump we have for the bed and run that out into the drain.

No money and yes he fills it full. When the ball stops the suction he stops and dumps.

FYI - I called him with your idea on the pump and he likes it. We can set up a permanent set up like that until we figure a way to get a sump system in there. What sucks is that where we would have to break the floor is where the footing is for the center beam on the foundation. Then we have to lay a row of cement to make an "aqueduct" of sorts so the water goes into the hole and not spread. French drains are not an option. We're afraid to try that if we could anyway! With our luck, the foundation will crumble and the house will fall on us!

My guess is... mmm... 200 gallons, hehe.
We don't have a basement but my house gets flooded everytime it rains a lot... Water gets in even through the floor... we have a little cheap pump that does the job just fine.

My father was the consummate "Hey I can use this for........" guy. He took a pump from an old washing machine along with the drive unit and made a sump pump out of it. It didn't work on an auto on/off mode but it did work like a champ when he switched it on. You just have to check on it often and shut it off when it's got the mess pumped out.

All he did was find the low spot on the basement floor and he simply chipped a 1 1/2" deep 3" diameter divot into the concrete and rigged a stand for the hose with an old car wheel. He drilled holes in the rim to allow water to flow to the divot and made a brace for the inlet hose in the wheel center. The inlet hose was held 1/2" from the bottom of the divot.

Later he mounted the pump right to the wheel so it was a single unit and he just plugged it in and threw the switch. When he didn't need it he just put it in a corner and that was it!

Give this one a thought.

We have a system "designed" and it'll work easy enough.... it's just I'm the one going to wind up making that cement aqueduct and running the pipe to the drain. Pipe running is easy but I'll need several check valves because it's a long run, several bends and uphill 5 feet to the drain. I want as little water standing in the pipe as possible to avoid the stink.

It's chipping the hole where it needs to go that worries me. I don't know how far past that column in the wall goes. There is no low spot really. Where it gathers is under / at the bottom of the stairs and it's not really designed to be a low spot that way. I think it's just the way it settled after all these years.
