Now I'm a rum fan from way back and always appreciate a good (affordable) rum to sip on.

I list Capt. Morgan as my "go to" since it's available everyfrigginwhere and moderately priced. Admiral Nelson is good too.

Moving up the ladder a bit you get into Capt. Morgan 100 proof, Capt. Morgan Black and the slightly more expensive but delicious Meyers Dark Jamaican.

I've been wanting to sample Kraken but nobody around here stocks it in the bar and I can only buy a 750 ML at the fucking state store. (ARRRRRGGGGHHHH I hope they pass that damned liquor privatization bill SOON)

I finally broke down and shelled out the $$$ for a 5th figuring that if I didn't like it I could always take it to a party and palm it off somehow.

Well...................that won't be necessary at all!
THIS STUFF KICKS ASS!

If any of you like a good spiced rum then GET THEE SOME KRAKEN!

It has a nice dark coloration and flavor that has distinct hints of cinnamon and vanilla. OY VEY......it's some good shit.

I don't see why. It should make a great mixed rum drink. Anything that calls for a spiced rum would be quite appropriate!

Because you're using it in a manner that could easily be accomplished using a cheaper brand, basically just like putting 4 ice cubes in a glass of scotch...

You're fucking up the taste of premium spirits by mixing it and not just enjoying it on its own. Sage advice from hardcore alcoholics like myself and every irish/scottish/british person ever

Trust me......cheaper rums are VERY detectable in mixed drinks. The better quality the rum, the more flavorful the drink.

Spiced rum is generally not a straight shot or on the rocks drink like whiskey. For the most part rums go best with colas (Coke more so than Pepsi or RC) or fruit juices.

I have experimented with a few other soft drink flavors and come up with some very interesting and delicious combinations. Kracken goes very well with Stewart's creme soda. I have yet to try it with some other of Stewart's creme combinations like orange and creme or cherries and creme.

I think it will go well with black cherry cola too.

It was great with orange juice!

I want to give it a go as the main rum in a Hurricane.
(Now THERE'S a drink for only the true drinker and rum fan!)

As far as pure whiskeys go my preference is Crown Royal. I tend to lean toward the blended Canadian whiskeys.
