Pretty damn good little horror movie from the UK. The story is fairly original, the cast is very good and the special effects were convincing.

Streaming on netflix

Oh that sounds good! I'll put it in my instant queue!

I just ordered up the I Claudius series. I watched it wow, like back in '78 and loved it. Matt never heard of or saw it so I thought it would be great for him and I wouldn't mind seeing it over again.

I just finished the Hunger Games trilogy this week. That was some riveting stuff! Now I want to watch the movie and see how it holds up to the books. Hopefully they make movies out of all three in the series.

Finished up watching Game of Thrones too - season 1. Can't wait for season 2 now and am tempted to buy the books too.

The Hunger Games movie was really good but it just didn't have the emotional resonance that I got from the books. Rue in particular didn't really 'touch' me like she did when I read her.

Game of Thrones books are excellent till you get to book 4 (I think, I've lost track)... it's like George RR Martin lost track of his characters and plot. I haven't even bothered to read book 5, the asshole took ten years to write it and I've kind of lost interest after the shitpile that was book 4.

Books always have more emotion than the movies. Thanks for the heads up! The books were absolutely riveting. I couldn't put them down.

How is Game of Thrones tv series compared to the books you read? Comparable or you think the books are better?

The series if fucking AWESOME! Obviously they're having to skip some of the character development since it's a huge cast but the ones they've spotlighted have been wonderful. They've found a treasure trove in Peter Dinklage, he IS the Imp. I can't remember the character's name... the big guy with the burned face that protects that loathsome prince? His character in the book is one of my favorites, I hope they develop him a little more fully next season. I wasn't pleased with Martin's treatment of his character in the book but he left it open where he might still be around. (Sorry, that's a spoiler but not much of one.)

Oh yeah, one thing weird about the books... Martin made all the characters significantly younger than the characters in the series. I chose to think that the world they live on has longer years so they're a comparable age, but it gets problematic when the oldest Stark daughter is 12 and Robb is 14. They're put into situations that are difficult to believe a child that young could cope with (and Sansa's constant sexual harassment is that much more disturbing.)

Yeah, but the story had a touch of oh, I dunno, Medieval or Iron Age quality to it and back then, would make it a little believable. People didn't live long back then and if you are female and you bleed, you are marriage worthy and must start bearing children. You're chattel and no one gives a shit if you're sexually abused.

I tend to nit pick the horses and the tack used on them. I see lots of modern bits, bridles and Australian saddles being used and pieces of fancy cloth thrown over them to hide the fact. Smile
Knights on light horses too. That made me laugh.

In the book, Sansa hasn't started her period till well into her imprisonment with the royals. They didn't get into it as much as the books did, but Littlefinger is VERY interested in Sansa since she looks so much like her mother, whom he couldn't have. He's a real pedo creeper.

Eww.... OK TMI - I only saw the first season on Netflix rentals and finding season two will be awhile unless I order HBO and kill it after the season.

I like the dragon people - I forget what they were called. But the last scene at the end of the season with the kahleesi (forget her name too. I'm terrible at the small detail recall) coming out of the pyre with the three dragons on her was really cool.

My prediction so far, not knowing one lick of the stories (which I'm surprised I didn't know about to begin with!) is that she and the bastard son of the Starks are going to be major players at the end somehow. Not together, but these are key people who will either come to the rescue or instrumental in some huge turning point to make things 'right'.

She just discovered her power as a woman and queen when she learned the power of her vagina. Her brother deserved that crown of gold.

The little tomboy sister (I'm bad with names too) seems important as well and in the books, the brother that was thrown off the building and can't walk comes across as a major player sometime in the near future. But then you just don't know, Martin has killed off some very surprising characters in this series.
