I saw this over the weekend and really thought the cops were way out of line with that spray. The story is the kids were protesting a hike in tuition, contrary what some google searches say as it's an OWS movement on campus. Either way, the kids are just sitting there, arms locked and not rioting nor hurting anyone. I can see if the cop felt his life was in danger or he couldn't protect someone whose life was, but that was not an ordinary blast of spray, he abused it and it might as well have been a fire hose filled spray cannon.

I'm ambivalent.

The students were told to leave and they didn't and they should have.

Cops act like power hungry assholes who think they can do whatever they want.

I've decided they deserve each other.

You're probably right there. They both need a special 'time out' room, where they can't infect the rest of us.

I would have just pulled one of their noses around until they let go and the rest would have dispersed. It's a proven method of breaking up daisy chain protesters.

Then it would have been excessive force of a different kind.

Did anyone notice they were blocking a road?

had they not been they would not have been ordered to move, and they would not have been pepper sprayed.

put the blame where it belongs , they wanted a confrontation, they got one, stop fucking whining.

You can't violate other peoples rights in your protests, if you do, expect to get fucked up.

Looks like a walkway to me. Yes I see the cop car there but often security is allowed to drive where you normally are not allowed. I bet there were ways around to get into the school.

Sorry, I'm all for gaining control but these kids were not so violent that they deserved to be hosed down at close range and then had the can refilled.

They were protesting tuition hikes and were not violent. Aren't they entitled to free speech?

Sure they are entitled to free speech, but not at the expense of other peoples rights.

They are entitled to protest, but not on a walkway if that's what you want to call it, and why do others have to go around them, is it possible that the route is a fire lane?emegency vehicle route?

And if that is a campus security car, was it campus police that sprayed them or regular police force officers?

I personally didn't see anything wrong with the action or the distance that they were sprayed at, the officer had good control of the pepper can and put it in their faces like he was trained to do.

with no sound who knows what was said to these people before they were sprayed or how many time it was said and what rule they were told they were violating, who knows what they said to the officers and how many people were behind the line that were being incited by their actions, I guess the cops should have let it go to the point of having to shoot a few of them before breaking it up.

peaceful assembly does not require the blocking of anything with your bodies in a daisy chain.

A resolution to avoid an evil is seldom framed till the evil is so far advanced as to make avoidance impossible.
