Your Dream House

I think our tastes when it comes to decorating houses or owning houses tend to say a lot about us. so I propose this question in an attempt to get to know you all.

So if you had a chance to buy or build your own dream house, how would it look like? how big would it be? etc.

For me, I've always liked Homes that had character to it. I don't really like those cookie-cutter homes where they all look the same, you know?
I'm espeically a huge fan of the Victorian look, like the ones pictured in those links:

well, you get the idea.

interestingly enough, I also like the really unique modern homes that has that 1920's hollywood decor look to it.

and on to the interior of my dream house I would have the following:
a really large library/study room , because I'm such a bibliophile that I can't help but collect books of my favorite works. and with my computer in there too as well, it would probably be the room that I would almost never come out of expect to eat and sleep. I'm a self-employed
graphic artist, so it's not like I don't need to go out for work.

My living room-slash enterainment room would look like this: http://luxury-interior.org/decoration/wp...853c95.jpg only expect the TV and the sofas wouldn't be smooshed to the side like that. the room would be kind of wider than that... and maybe add a pool table along with a bar thing to entertain my guests with.

So my home would have 7 rooms in total, if you count the additional bathroom that I would have for guests.

So, what would your dream house be like?

I've never really thought about actually designing my own house. I have figured that my dream house would have a heated bathroom floor and two heated towel racks for me. Nothing like a warm floor in the morning and a warm towel when you step outta the shower. The second towel? Everybody should have a second towel, try it sometime, get mostly dry with the first then grab a fresh one, like heaven I tells ya. Oh that and a switch by my bed to turn my coffee pot on down in the kitchen.

Does having a maid count as a dream house?

I'd love a geodesic dome! In fact, Matt and I almost bought one when we were house shopping. The problem that stopped us was a big crack in the wall where the dome top met the walls. Not enough storage and the crawl under the house was too inefficient to deal with. We passed it up. It was pretty cool though.

LOL! When we went house hunting 24 years ago my husband almost gave that quote to the agent when they asked.

We needed a place that could hold 6 cars, a workshop and storage. When he asked what sort of house we were looking for, we looked at each other and said 'a house? Well if it came with a house that would be perfect'.

We have an Edwardian 1903 place with space down the length of the property.
Had to build the bathroom, since there wasn't one.

Now I would like a bungalow on a hill still like we are now, but without the traffic and the school so close. Bigger garden with the 6 cars at the bottom IN a garage or a bigger carport than we have now with the workshop.
My 'piggies' could have their shed moved so they could free-roam if the weather is good enough for them to go into the garden and be secure from predators.

I haven't known anyone. Like I said, it may be designed like that but it will cluttered within a week of unread newspapers!

I love the idea of a dome house, my friends have an "almost dome" - it is more like an octagon and I have always loved their home. As Twitchen Kitten said, there is not much storage. It is a great style of house for a vacation or retirement home.

I was lucky enough to live in my almost dream home for the last 15 years. I say almost, because it was a dream home that was also within my budget. The only thing I would have liked to change was to put in a complete gourmet kitchen, but I never had the money to do it.

I have pictures, but I don't see any way to post them here. It is basically a 1970's ski chalet, with lots of wood and natural stone. Open floor plan, with the living room, kitchen and dining room all open as one big room. Living room ceiling was over 20 feet high with a floor to ceiling natural stone fireplace. There was also a stone fireplace and jacuzzi in the master bedroom.

For Biker, the basement opened into the garage and had large doors, so you could drive cars into the basement to work on them. The garage was also heated.

I say was in my description, because I just sold the house and moved down south. The closing on my dream home will take place in the next few weeks. We are now living in a great place, but it is a rental. Looking for that next dream home to complete the next chapter of our lives.

I know people with homes like this. I don't know how they keep it clean like that. I think the maids have tricks - no one that is an average middle class home here has a house that does not look lived in - only those who are millionaires around here. There's plenty of them. We work on their audio systems all the time - goddamn gorgeous homes on the water.
