I love working with Hattie (boss's daughter) on Saturdays.

She is working hard to hopefully complete her studies and train eventually as a Paramedic. She is a clever girl and full of fun and so very lively- so totally opposite to her quiet big brother.

She has started driving lessons, 'After all' she said 'If I'm to race through the traffic on blues and twos to an incident I better be able to do it well. All I can do at the moment is stall at junctions'

I told her after only two lessons that was possibly to be expected. She then said she was inclined to gravitate to the wrong side of the road.............
'Well, practice for the blues and twos! Most ambulances find themselves driving against the traffic'

Then I said something really stupid.
'What sort of car are you learning to drive?'
Doh *she is going to give me the colour...I just know it....

'Oh- Hattie, please don't tell me it is blue!'
'It's a shiny sort of silver actually' she grinned' 'with big fetching red L 's on the front and back'

Ha ha ha! Hopefully she can tell what box has what in it by what it's called and not the colors when it comes time to save a life!

Your paramedics are allowed to drive against traffic there? They can't here. Also, they cannot go faster than the speed limit on the road they're on. Traffic must come to a complete halt and move to the right to make way though.

Any means must Angel speed limits apply in built up areas, but if you saw the traffic and the narrow High Street you would see why they do. The traffic has to give way to emergency vehicles. They can legally jump lights too, but must give far warning they are approaching.

We were going to see friends last Sunday on the dual carriageway through the New Forest when we noticed the traffic on our side slowing down. A police car was on the other side with the blues only, on the otherside of the road. We looked at each other knowing the car was heading back to Ringwood for the junction to come back on our side.
I said 7 minutes Mark said 5 minutes ' They will use the short cut'

Well they didn't, (couldn't be local bobbies) and it was nearly 10 minutes when in the wing mirror the lights were visible and everyone was separating the road so the police car could come through the centre.
Mark decided it was doing at least a ton!

There was a multi car pile up in the 'drop' as we know it. A common accident spot where often deer cross. Looked as if it had happened again, 8 cars.
No one was hurt thank goodness!

Each state is different.

We can't have ambulances going that fast here. There just isn't the room to get up that kind of speed safely. Too congested and too much of a risk of them hitting someone on their way to save someone. That happens all too often as it is now.

We can run lights though, but the driver must nearly stop to make sure it's safe. Out here, too many people are so stupid when it comes to the law regarding police and emergency vehicles. I see many people NOT stopping and too often I get grief when I slow down and pull over. Idiots. Lots of idiots.

I almost got smashed by a fire chief once when he was going through a red light when I was making turn. It was partially my fault because I had my music too loud to hear him coming up, where I was turning there was no way to see him till I got into the lane and didn't see any flashing lights. He didn't really take any precaution coming into the intersection though either, he just drove on the grass right by me lol.

In PA ambulances may not exceed the speed limit on highways but may exceed in-town limits (as in go 40 in a 25 for example). They must come to a stop and give warning before going through a red traffic signal.

Fire apparatus may exceed the speed limit but not drive in an unsafe manner (yeah I know......loose definition there). They are SUPPOSED to slow to a crawl before going through a red light and may ignore one way street direction.

OK Don't laugh you lot
England has 'some' snow.

One very pissed off son, since having the use of 2 cars and both are off the road, he has to cycle to work.
