One of my friends on Facebook wanted to start a "game" where you posted your birthplace. One guy said he'd never give out that info even in his private area and I, in an attempt at humor that apparently went terribly awry said "I dare anyone to find the birth records of F'mal DeHyde from San Diego. Tongue" to which he replied "Um, yeah, but you do realize that, according to the FB TOC, we are supposed to use our given names. A moniker could give FB cause for deleting an account." Officious little prick? Yes, I believe he is.

Because we all know, no one has ever created an account at FB using a fake name. Until me. Bad, bad me. Nono

Unless you count all those pets with their own accounts. Because I kind of doubt they actually created those themselves which means an actual human is posting as their dog. *GASP!!*

One more FB annoyance. I "like" a lot of different pet organizations and they'll occasionally post that one of their animals has died (like Best Friends will let people know that an older cat has passed on.) So you've got this long thread of people posting directly to the dead animal assuring them how happy they'll be now that they've crossed the rainbow bridge. Yes, that's very sweet but do they really think this dead cat reads Facebook? Crazy

Hey you kids, get off my lawn!

Oh that reminds me... the little dog you donated to for me last Christmas died Sorry

OK, back to your rant.

Did the idiot not realize you posted F'mal DeHyde's location as the joke too?

Everything else in your rant - all I can say is, my words exactly. You spoke equally for me on this shit. I'm so sick of Facebook. Do you know I tried whoring my sites in there for people to register who don't belong yet and all I got was the idiots "liking" the page for the sites instead?

I mean, I can understand Skin City Designs not getting new registrations until or unless someone needs computer help but I whored this site for CONVERSATION and the cooking site for obvious reasons, share your fucking recipes and chat about cooking. All I got was idiots liking the pages on FB.

Facebook has made everyone on the internet a moron. It's intrusive to boot. You did see my news article on privacy? I think I titled it "Privacy Stealing Bitches" - it's all about FB and how they intrude on your life. That thing has to go down! lol So your "friend" who is bitching about alias accounts and what not should be more worried about the intrusiveness into his shit than your alias account! Dumbass.

OK I need to shut up now. I'm all over the place.

Dead animals read FB about as much as live ones do.

Not surprising about the little dog, I usually sponsor ones that look like they need help the most. I've been lucky with several cats, they were adopted even though their back legs were paralyzed and they were incontinent. It takes a special person to take responsibility for the kind of care needed.

I'm the same way. If I adopt something, it's usually the most pathetic looking thing in there. I haven't outright adopted anything in well over 20 years now. They all seem to find me instead.

2,386,331: a "casual" game site I belong to has a forum where you can discuss the latest games and read others opinions and reviews of them. One of the biggest sellers are the hidden object games with slight variations. There's always someone that has to come in and insult the intelligence of the people that like those type of games over role playing games, adventure games (point and click) etc by saying the game is childish or only suited for feeble old people.

Well, the latest rude comment went along the lines of "the developer is trying to appeal to the less sophisticated gamers..." which several people found offensive. I started a thread asking members to please refrain from making comments like that and I got the most sanctimonious and patronizing reply I've ever seen. Something about members there not all having English as their primary language, members being autistic, physically disabled... and that the person who posted the 'sophisticated' comment was a non-English speaker, a wonderful person that would NEVER write something rude and that it was my problem for being offended when no offense was meant.

Really? Someone without a pretty solid grasp of English is going to use the word sophisticated? This kind of excuse making is right up there with calling someone a racist name and then accusing the offended of being a politically correct asshole. It's the victim's fault. I realize this is a really small, unimportant issue but it highlights one of my pet peeves... personal responsibility. There were many insulted posters questioning the sophisticated comment, but instead of apologizing, we've got someone there blaming everyone else for being mean to the poor little lady that don't talk good English. Well you know what? If I had limited use and understanding of another language, I'd either avoid posting on a predominately Chinese speaking (for example) forum or I'd keep it simple. I'm not going to go in there and start sneering at the topic of conversation.

Asshole. Her preachy sermon really pissed me off.

And why the fuck did she mention physical disabilities and autism? That excuses being a rude bitch? Do autistic people even post in forums? Or is she just including those to make me look even more like a raging lunatic for picking on the feeble when all I wrote was that it'd be nice if members wouldn't post judgmental comments.

I should go live in a cave without internet connection, even online "communication" irritates me.

Twilla, you should have come back at her in spades and POLITELY made her look stupid for not understanding what you said in the first place.

you're 100% correct when you said if someone does not understand the language, STFU and let it go. You were sticking up for those who like the "unsophisticated" types of games and she goes off on you completely off the mark. Adding the Autism and Physical Disabilities only proves she lacks the understanding of your post.

Remember when you once said on Mock how I had the talent for insulting someone without them even knowing it (something to that effect)? Well, do that to her and anyone else stupid enough to side with her.

Very VERY heavy moderation there and a lot of people more than willing to cry to the moderators who relish editing posts. If I get any more confrontational, they'll remove my entire thread.

Part of her post, being the voice of reason against my obvious insanity:

Quote:Let's try to remember that BF has members from all over the world, people with autism, social disorders, shyness and more, and that any of these things may keep them from being able to express themselves the way we'd hope they would.

My reply:

Quote:I'm well aware that this site is frequented by people from all over the world that don't have English as their first language. I also appreciate that you feel the need to defend a friend who you seem to feel is being unfairly attacked. But language difference or not (and let me compliment a non-English speaker for using the word "sophisticated"), her intent was fairly clear when she wrote that comment.

And while you seem to feel that her word choice is ultimately my problem because I'm being close minded about this somehow, I'm not the only one that was offended. Check the original thread, it's been commented on by at least five others.

Believe it or not, I wasn't trying to single this person out. I also mentioned in my original post how freely members here throw remarks like "childish" when describing a game, like the only people that could possibly enjoy it have the mentality of a 6 year old. I've even seen someone say how a game was only good for old people. Language difference or not, that can't be read as anything less than insulting to a good number of people by being dismissed in this way.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be warned for this post anyway.

I don't understand why she's even defending the remark. Rude is rude. How could the poster not be aware that her comment was demeaning? How could someone with the word 'sophisticated' in their vocabulary be unaware of its meaning? Dodgy

Well, that didn't take long, the thread is now locked with this from the mod:

We are happy to look at any posts/threads for you and by contacting a Moderator, it helps to keep things friendly (per our #1 rule in the Forum Rules). I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread; feel free to contact a Moderator with any questions. Thank you.
