At first glance I was wondering how in the hell you got your hamster in coffee and if it was hot!!!

My daughter has a teddy bear hamster and is that thing ever hairy. It got pretty big too. I must admit, it is kinda cute.

God I hate pet shop names for hamsters. There is no such thing as a Teddy Bear hamster. They are called Syrian hamsters and they come in different colors.

http://www.petwebsite.com/hamsters/about_hamsters.htm

LOADS of really good info on all kinds of hamsters on that site.

It's funny, these lovely little pets have been touted as great 'starter' pets for children for ages but in reality, they are better suited for adults due to their small size, nocturnal life and their propensity to bite if mishandled. Dwarf hamsters are even more prone to bite if you freak them out and they are way too swift for a child to handle in my opinion.

They're so cute! Isn't Bucky a sable? Sunny from PWS would try to steal him, hehe.

Damn-spaz much?

You knew what I was talking aboutwhen I said Teddy Bear.

My daughter is 14 so I am pretty confident in her abilities to care for a hamster. What age in your expert opinion is old enough to appropriately handle a rodent? Just wondering.

We also have a dog and have had two others. No we do not let the dog play with the hamster in case that was your next bitch.

She has plenty of experience with pets and is very compassionate. She earns the money herself for bedding, food, toys etc. She freshens the cage daily and cleans it out weekly.

Whoa, back up there. I was NOT saying a damn thing about your kid or her abilities. I was making a comment about hamsters in general over the years.

You might want to re-read my comment and take your mom hat off while you're doing it.

Next time I'll just figure you'd rather remain ignorant and continue to teach your kid stupid shit so she grows up sounding just as ignorant. K?

Also, when I viewed the link, they themselves said they were sometimes called teddy bear hamsters. Kinda like instead of saying person, you say "german" or whatever. It was also noted that they are good pets for small children with adult supervision. Hiney

yeah adult supervision, so what? My comments still stand. It's my OPINION not a set in stone fact people for ages have been ignoring. And someone saying "sometimes called" is so the ignorant understand what exactly you're referring to.

My beef with the pet shops is when you see names for the same genre calling them "panda bear" hamsters (friggin pandas aren't even bears!), Teddy Bear, Blueberry, Strawberry and shit like that. It's not the same as saying "german" vs person.

My comment with my mom hat on wasn't to defend my daughter. You don't know her so can't speak specifically to her, that was my point.

Saying, "Kids shouldn't have hamsters" is an ignant blanket statement.
