I sit around 10 feet from my 42" LCD and it's very comfortable. By rights I could go to a 60" and still be good but much bigger than a 47" to 50" won't fit in my entrainment center.
The 42 was priced right when I bought it ($1,200.00 but then again the prices were still up on LCD TVs at the time) so I'm happy with it. Mine is a Phillips and it has one hell of a good audio amplifier! Even without coupling it to a surround system and just using it's stock sound bar speakers it sounds great. If I want earth shattering tone and volume I feed it through my bigassed PA system.
