We've ALWAYS taught our pets, dog, cat, fish thats its unacceptable to be on the table or counter or anyplace we may put food. If we are sitting at the table and we have on of them on our lap the most they even try and we let them is smell. Not our food but just the table. A few times the cat would jump up on the counter or maybe the table and usually a slap of the hands was all that was needed. A few times she would try to ignore the command or our voice until she saw us move to get up and she flat hauled her butt OFF. Not one of them would EVER try to take food off of your plate. ONLY out of your hand. In fact, our Yorkie WILL NOT eat from a plate or a bowl. Off of the floor only. He acts as though hes afraid of it. He drinks from a bowl easy enough. He always eats our dinner. He eats about anything we do including vegatables.
