Depends on the site and what's going into it.
Anything with a forum is time consuming.
I run my three and am on "retainer" for two others.
I have several steady clients that only want me working in their control area (you know because I'm so untrustworthy) and they pay as they go when things are needed. I got several sites I'm going to need to upgrade for those clients on a first come, first serve basis.
If the site has a lot of custom elements like themes and stuff, well that can take almost a full day to get sorted, settled, tested and tweaked. My sites are huge so they will take the longest.
The work is few and far between so I don't really make a steady income from this. And now with Dylan having virtually no internet, it's really hard to feature new things. I'm hoping things turn around for him soon but he's out in the friggin' hinterlands where they don't have cable.
My 'retainer' people don't pay me much either. I don't ask for a set fee from them, they just throw me $$ when I do things for them and actually that works out nicely because they are generous that way.
I work pretty cheap when I do for 'strangers'. My fee is $10/hour. Most times the work I do is less than an hour or two worth of work at any given time. What gets me is how many people think I charge too much and that even more expect me to sit here all day and do this shit for free. Seriously. I've had people bitch that they got this or that for free and since the software is free, how can I charge for my stuff? I wash my hands of those people who have no idea that my time is valuable and that I'm not here as Santa Clause of the internet.
