RE: Remodeling the Nuclear Room - Twitchin Kitten - 05-08-2012 Finally! I have some photos of the room for you all. The room isn't quite white, but a very light gray. Kind of like the gray you see when you click new reply here and the box you type in, that kind of light gray. The ceiling is slightly darker to avoid excessive glare in the room but it did not come out as dark as I wanted. I may do it again once the room is in order and the exercise machines are out of there. Excuse the weird angles, I have a Bowflex and a treadmill dead center of the room and it's really awkward taking pictures. I can't wait until these things are out of here! I'm not worried about all the splatters on the floor. It's all stained from the monkey piss fiasco so I'm not going to bother refinishing it anytime soon. Carpet is going in the room. I did all the trim work. ![]() OK Here's the doorway and the closet. The closet was turned into more of an 'inlet' so we can make shelving top to bottom and fill the entire space with storage. The stereo will be getting set up in here as well and it will be controlled via remote from anywhere in the house. **Sorry, I lost all these images and can't find them on my hard drive. Had to remove the "placeholders" because I'm tired of getting system error messages in my email.** And here is the window on the front of the house where we're going to build the desk. I need to get a 10' board for the windowsill that will go wall to wall and then I can frame out the other three sides of the window. The desk will go wall to wall as well. **Sorry, I lost all these images and can't find them on my hard drive. Had to remove the "placeholders" because I'm tired of getting system error messages in my email.** RE: Remodeling the Nuclear Room - twisteroo - 05-08-2012 I kinda like the white and blue, looks neat, clean, simple, and tidy. I mean until you move all the junk back into the room.
RE: Remodeling the Nuclear Room - Twitchin Kitten - 05-08-2012 Thanks Twist. The living room and hallway has the blue trim so we just carried it in from there. RE: Remodeling the Nuclear Room - Twitchin Kitten - 01-20-2013 Aww, man, two posts up, my photos are gone. must have got borked on one of the updates or one of the moves we did. Anyway, this weekend is work on the room weekend! I have some wood downstairs getting painted, stained and cut for trim work around the window and the desk. We laid the carpet today. I think it looks pretty nice. Sorry for the blurry pics, I'm not doing them again. You can still see the improvement. We glued the rug down with that double sided tape for carpets because I didn't want to put padding under there because of the chairs with wheels. Tack strips would just come right through because the pile is very tight. Not indoor-outdoor, just a tight pile. Got it cheap too. Home Depot had a sale on blue carpet and we got it for under $70 for the room ![]() [attachment=2372] [attachment=2373] [attachment=2374] RE: Remodeling the Nuclear Room - Twitchin Kitten - 01-26-2013 I cannot believe this is actually happening! Been working today again making the desktop and the woodwork around the window. Stupid old house makes straight lines very, very difficult! The walls are far from straight. Have one piece of wood to stain for the "seal" across the front and we'll have that desk up tomorrow. Then I get to do some fancy woodwork and make a table leg for the center. Pics to follow when the weekend's work is complete! The closet is next! RE: Remodeling the Nuclear Room - LKTraz - 01-27-2013 Progress, progress, progress! RE: Remodeling the Nuclear Room - Twitchin Kitten - 01-27-2013 We decided to nix the fancy table leg for the middle brace. I need drawers to keep the junk out of site so IKEA has a nice set of 6 that will fit nicely under the table top and act as a brace to keep the middle from sagging. File cabinets are becoming a decision problem. Do we ditch the old ones we have and buy new ones or just paint the old one and keep it? buying one is looking like the easier choice. Matt's going to pick up a cheap table leg at IKEA on his way home tomorrow so we can at least have some progress to move forward and we'll take a trip together once the truck is back and do some more shopping. Matt is prepping a media center in the storage closet too. All the stereo, AV, DVR, set top box, EVERYTHING is going in there and will work off one universal remote. He's going to set that up so that we can watch ANY box in any room on any TV with one click. So say the DVR is recording the max number of shows at one time and we want to watch something else, we can force the set top box from the bedroom to show images on the living room TV and not disturb the recordings and not have to go to another room to watch! Sweet. Turns out the blue stain, yes stain, I am using on the desk and one shelf so far is not not made anymore at Home Depot. I need to scope out Lowes and see if they have it or take a chance with the Home Depot guy and let him try to make up the stain for me. If it won't work, I need to think of how I want to do those shelves that are going to go on each side of that window. RE: Remodeling the Nuclear Room - Twitchin Kitten - 01-29-2013 Progress resumes! Got the table leg and although it's not fastened properly, it will be later today. I have to stain the finished strip one more coat and shellack the the thing today. It'll get nailed on, touched up and set by this evening. Electricity is Matt's dept. and he'll be finishing up the boxes and outlets you see exposed. The center hole under there is the media outlet. All kinds of networking shit goes in there. Then we put shelves up on each side of the window and one across the entire top of the room for some of the collectables I have from hockey games and stuff. The instructions for the table leg cracked me up. It's a leg with 5 screws. All in pictures because IKEA thinks that's the international language. This is the best part - I see, "If you're a retard and can't figure out what that screwdriver does, call IKEA for help." [attachment=2377] [attachment=2376] RE: Remodeling the Nuclear Room - twisteroo - 01-29-2013 That looks pretty snazzy. One thing though, that tree kinda ruins the view, even though the view is only another house, it still ruins it though. Cut that sucker down and get a clear view. Oh, wait....forget that. Hang a bird feeder in that tree, that shelf looks like the perfect spot to watch birds from. RE: Remodeling the Nuclear Room - Twitchin Kitten - 01-29-2013 That tree is on the road and keeps the house cool. There is a Japanese Red maple to the left and closer to the house. |
