Uh, no holes in my carbon fiber seat post thank you very much.
Really though, my mountain bike post is not carbon but I still won't drill it.
My clamp is one with the handle on it, my first attempt would be to get a better clamp, maybe like the one Biker Dude showed us with the actual bolt in it. Any of my seat posts with those kind of clamps don't slip.

Hey Twist - I need new rubber on the Trek. Should I replace with the exact same brand or just go to Kmart or something and pick up rubber there?
What do you do for new rubber?
The bike has Bontrager tires on them but damn, they're expensive!
I have these on there now and the link has two options offered as well. The ones I have seem to be the better tire. I call bullshit on the hard case preventing flats!

I think the hard case are really good tires. I have had a set on a road bike and was very pleased with them, come to think of it, I'm pretty sure I have some on my trek mountain bike.
It's like everything else, you get what you pay for, the racers that are worried about weight will argue that the tough tires, (kevlar belted and all that good stuff) are heavier, but for myself I would rather ride than fix flats. Run anything and carry a spare tube, patches, tire levers, and a pump.
You probably wouldn't like my choice for a set because of the price. I tend to over spend when it is someone else doing the spending. I do however like specialized armadillos and schwalbe tires.
Also something to think about it might be a good time to go with something less aggressive if say you don't really need all that grip all the time. Less aggressive would make light trail riding and riding on pavement and sidewalks and bike paths slightly easier.

I'm mostly in the woods and that grip helps on those roots and loose stuff. The tread you see in the pic isn't as deep as you would think. Pretty sure they're all around types, like all season car tires.
I had to ask because I've never had a good enough bike long enough to need new rubber.
I'm also like you, I don't want to continuously patch tubes. Weird thing, I can take my tire off the rims without any tools. Slips right out for me.
I'm also not too worried about weight. Between me and the bike I'm hauling 165 pounds or so.

Velociraptor WTB's are the main shit stain for the price and ive never had issues with patching tubes most thorns etc don't get through them. Most tires you come across will be some variant of all terrain, good terrain specific tires are not really cheap.
I remember Michelin used to have the wildgripper tires those were awesome but not cheap. They were also green so when you skid on pavement you left a green/blue mark. Another thing to consider is mixing up the tread pattern having a different tread for the rear over the front.

How far do you let them go bald before you get new ones? I'll take a pic of mine later and show you. I may just wait for Santa to buy me new ones. Mom still makes us give her a list of things to buy and I can never think of anything anymore. FFS, I'm not 12 anymore. Gimme money. This way I can get more tattoos.

The last on I replaced was in North Dakota, it was pretty much bald and going flat every few miles. I don't think I've ever wore out a mountain bike tire. Usually my tires get tired from getting cut up and holes punched through them, or they get old and start to come apart like a retread on a truck.
