If you can remove the oxidation from them or at least halt further corrosion it makes for an awesome appearance! wipe it with lard or used motor oil and it won't rust any more. RE: Working on some rusty blades. - Flamethrower - 10-29-2014 Some pretty cool medieval style steel there Viz. Did your dad ever try his hand at any maces or flails? I would think that flails would be kind of tough due to making the balls light enough to use but heavy enough to cause sufficient damage. RE: Working on some rusty blades. - Vizth Hal - 06-29-2015 I've not had time at all for almost 8 months to do anything to these. Right now I'm contemplating blueing them because the steel used starts rusting again in a day. I'm trying to decide is i should for a blueish finish or just make it straight black. I do want the blade and the hilt to be different colors, not sure how to do this as seeing the whole thing is welded together. RE: Working on some rusty blades. - Twitchin Kitten - 06-29-2015 Have you thrown a thin coat of 10W40 on it while not using it? I used to do that to the engine on my bike when I packed it up for the winter to prevent pitting on the fins. RE: Working on some rusty blades. - Vizth Hal - 06-29-2015 Yes I did, made it about a week then |
