Actually it's the lid lifter for a wood or coal stove.

We pried up a loose board in an apartment we rented years ago and found a great stash of jewelry. Cashed it in for two motorcycle jackets and helmets.

The second one is a home made lifter. Probably for someone's hunting camp or some such.
