RE: Winterizing - LKTraz - 10-19-2009 Well....you could always order online. RE: Winterizing - LKTraz - 11-21-2009 New note for you diesel owners.... In a pinch, filtered and cleansed used fryer oil will burn as fuel in your engine with absolutely no modifications. A gallon or two on board could work well as some "rescue" food. RE: Winterizing - Twitchin Kitten - 11-21-2009 My brother keeps asking me if I want his used oil. should I take a barrel of it? How do I clean and filter it? Like I do with any oil I want to reuse with a cheesecloth strainer? RE: Winterizing - LKTraz - 11-21-2009 Cheesecloth straining is exactly what you need to do. Run it through as many times as needed to effect a noticeable color change in the oil. When it begins to clarify the color will lighten. You'll get no better mileage from it but it will be a good (free, hopefully) source of auxiliary fuel for you. Yes, you can mix it with regular diesel. I'd recommend no more than a 10% mix during the cold weather and experiment with higher concentrations during the warm months. |
