60"! I'm trying to think where on earth we could put a TV that size.

When we bought our HD TV the deliveryman asked why we hadn't got a bigger screen. I pointed out we would have to watch it from our neighbours across the road. Edwardian houses were not built for hi-tech equipment, they didn't even have running water for heavens sake!

Hmm....just going to measure a wall....

I need Matt to get in here and explain how to figure what size TV is best for the size of your room.

A rule of thumb that I use for flat panel sizes is this: TV size times 1.5 and TV size times 2.5. If the viewing distance falls between these two variables, that's the right tv for you.

Example: I want a 36 inch tv
36 x 1.5 = 54 inches or 4.5 feet
36 x 2.5 = 90 inches or 7.5 feet

If the distance you will be sitting or viewing the tv falls between 4.5 and 7.5 feet, a 36 inch flat screen is the right tv for you. If not, either increase or decrease the size of the tv.

The reason for this is the fact that if you sit too close to the tv, you will see every pixel, thus negating the high def quality, and sitting too far away doesn't allow you to enjoy the high def picture.

'What has Joan got you doing now?' he says in a tired voice.
How did he know? Scratchead

We have the right TV, Proud

Did you tell him you were comparing "with Matt"? Giggle

RE: My new toy! - LKTraz - 10-03-2010

My distance is about 9 feet and I have a 42" Phillips LCD. I got it right!

I'm not getting the tape out to see.
Cause I see my tv and we really don't need a different one.
