You know, just so I could say that I was in one.I was in hurricane Charlie, literally. The damn dog got out and I was outside like a fucking idiot looking for him with a flash light. There was a lot of wind, but it didn't seem so bad untill we got up and looked around in the morning. The neighbors huge oak tree was bent in half, all the windows were blown out of my car, and my mailbox was on the roof and it took a week to get the electricity back on. I'm lucky I wasn't killed out there. RE: 2010 Hurricane season - Rhubarb - 08-30-2010 The nearest we have been to a Hurricane is this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/witness/october/16/newsid_3174000/3174374.stm I slept through the whole thing. I'd been packing up the house to move that week. Mark had sat up all night with Christine sat on the bedroom windowsill watching debris and wheelie bins dancing in the cul-de-sac. The bins all ended up in one garden (all 34 bins- a bit of a shock the house owner when they open the door next morning). RE: 2010 Hurricane season - LKTraz - 08-30-2010 Danielle has degraded and is happily heading into the North Atlantic away from the Grand Banks. Earl however is now a category 4 hurricane and depending on if it wobbles just a bit west could make landfall somewhere on the Mid-Atlantic coastline or as far north as Nova Scotia. Click for a larger image. TS Fiona is following a similar track but isn't expected to gain hurricane force at this time. RE: 2010 Hurricane season - Twitchin Kitten - 08-30-2010 I don't want fucking Earl. I don't want a flooded basement. I don't want to have to evac. I don't have enough carriers for 6 cats! Cross your fingers he stays east. RE: 2010 Hurricane season - LKTraz - 08-30-2010 Well the saving grace is that Earl will lose steam rapidly as it runs parallel to the coastline. It will likely be down to a category 1 or TS by the time it gets as far north as NJ. RE: 2010 Hurricane season - Twitchin Kitten - 08-30-2010 Not according to the weather channel and other news sources here! They're saying JFK could go under 20' of water! I'm ON the coast.... I KNOW I'll get flooded. I need to get everything off the basement floor, unplugged and plugged up and figure on going inland to friends for the night. RE: 2010 Hurricane season - LKTraz - 08-31-2010 As of 1AM EDT the NHC tracking indeed has put Earl closer to the coast but still degrading to a category 1 by the time it gets to the NJ/NY coast. It looks like it will stay offshore but the cone shows that there will be impact. If there is a landfall it's likely to be Cape Hatteras,NC. *Note: By doing my own tracking at the NHC I was at least 2 hours ahead of the Weather Channel and all other media on Danielle* RE: 2010 Hurricane season - BarEdul - 08-31-2010 Cat, One Hurricane can be rode out in most housing inland around Cape Hatteras however on the islands they usually scoot and run. This time of the year they can have as many as 100,000 people or more to evacuate from the small island called the emerald island consisting of Morehead City and other towns outside of Cherry point. Time for them to get the people moving soon. Messy messy. I hope it doesn't do much damage no matter where it lands. RE: 2010 Hurricane season - Flamethrower - 09-01-2010 They have ordered all tourists/visitors to evacuate the North Carolina barrier island coastline. It looks like Earl will cause some nasty flooding even if he makes a near pass. The west side of the storm rotation at the very least will pass over land and if there is a change in the steering currents he might make landfall or stall just off the coast. Either way he'll make for some messy weather. RE: 2010 Hurricane season - LKTraz - 09-01-2010 Current warnings cone for Earl. |
