TK, the most important thing is if you leave gas in it be sure it has stabilizer in it to keep it from varnishing the jet and reeds in the carburator. the other method to prevent this is run it out of gas before you park it for the winter.

other than that it really is just park it in the winter and get it out in the spring,

a little trick I learned from my dad is to put about 1 ounce of marvel mystery oil in the last tank of gas for the year also, this will help keep the internal parts from rusting and corroding, and do it again on the first tank of the year to help remove the moisture from the cylander and valves.

There is a product on the market called seafoam that does the same thing only it has a solvent base that also cleans everything, either will do what you want for the first tank of the year, but marvel for sure for the last tank of fuel.

Oh wow, I haven't seen Marvel Mystery Oil in ages! At least around here.

They got it started, Dave shook the motor after Matt still couldn't get it running after tuning up and putting in new oil, gas and filter.

Shaking it huh? That's a new one. I suppose it could have shook loose a stuck float in the carb or something.

I do use Seafoam myself, I have not seen any acts of magic out of it, but I do use it.

Havoc has a good formula there. I prefer Mystery Oil and it is commonly available around here. (Might be due to this being farm country)

Also in the fall:

When you're ready to put it away for the winter you should disconnect the fuel line and run it till it stalls. This will clear the carburetor bowl of fuel.

If possible, dismount and drain the gas tank. (Don't need the Mystery Oil then.)

Pull the spark plug and stuff an oil damp rag into the hole (NOT all the way in, just plug the hole with some rag hanging out.) This helps to keep moisture out of the cylinder


In the spring:

Remount the tank and fill with fresh gas and a splash of Mystery Oil or Sea Foam.

Remove the rag from the spark plug hole and pull the starter 3 or 4 times.

Install a fresh plug and prime the carburetor.

It should start in just a few tugs.
