And speaking of assholes in the news, this is a sad tale of bad luck, terrible conditions, and a failure of the chain of command. Obviously someone is responsible, and that someone is Princess Cruises. I would really like to know what eventually shakes down about all this.

I was never a navy man, but know that the very first law of the seas is that no matter who you are, where you are headed, or what the issue, it is written in stone that you always stop to rescue someone in trouble. To me, someone is criminally responsible for failure to do his/her duty.

What say you?

My guess is that the sales rep never bothered to notify the wheelhouse of the vessel spotted.

OK WTF? I know I was the first to reply this thread yesterday soon after John posted it.

I saw LK replied about the same time. Trudi complained about missing posts via PM to me today. WTF is going on?

What say you?

My mother came from a fishing family and she was taught to always check if help is needed, made available or someone who could help is told. She instilled it in us too, even though she had her own boat and we are very much land based.
It is unacceptable that anyone doesn't check the slightest query.
Also, I would have thought the boat would have shown up on radar, which should have alerted the crew.

You know, I have taken a cruise vacation and thinking on this now, there was nothing other than a fire alarm so crew can be alerted of emergencies. Trains have emergency brakes, I wonder why nothing of the like - maybe some kind of siren, is on cruise ships?
