Surely there are other tea fanatics here like myself?

There better be with all the hits from around the Globe on that map. There is even a dot in the middle of Siberia.

Kim (Kbear) is a tea fan but she's on vacation right now. If you click on The Twitchin' Kitchen up at the top in the welcome box, there's my cooking forum and I've a section on tea in there.

I used to be real hot for tea but I flipped a few years ago to coffee and I can't get enough of the stuff. If I drink as much tea as I do coffee, my heart races and feels like it's going to beat right out of my chest. I can drink coffee all day and not bounce off the walls like tea makes me.

That forum is closed to registration right now, I can register you if you want but I've yet to figure a way to have dual membership from here to there yet. Working on it. The site closed due to inactivity (I got tired of being the only one posting) but I couldn't bring myself to make the whole thing go away. I eventually wanted / want to publish a cookbook of everyone's recipes but with only me posting, there's really no point. Lots of good stuff in there though. You're going to notice a lot of Arab food too - which I'm SURE you're sick to death of by now Wink

You kidding? I love Arab food. I also brought back a ton of the tea there. I used to pay an Iraqi kid a dollar a week roughly to bring my fresh Chai you could put a stick in upright while I was running a FOB gate. He also got a bottle of clean water with it in addition to the water I gave him to make my tea.

US servicemen do not eat the local fare much aside from whatever the people from India and such working the DFAC's made, so it was an event when I got ahold of some.

I'm half Syrian and grew up on this stuff. I love it, it's healthy for you and I don't know too many people who actually like it. It seems to be an acquired taste. When I do find a restaurant outside of NY or Dearborn, MI who boasts the stuff, it is usually swill. Yeah, I'm very picky.
When I was married, I hadn't had but two meals of the stuff because he's a dick and hated the food. Wouldn't even try it to say he hated it for real. It looked foreign to him and I quote, "Shit niggers would eat." Bastard wouldn't even let it in the house. Dumbass wouldn't even understand that I'm not quite white. I would bust his chops and tell him he's married to a Sand Nigger so yeah, niggers eat that stuff. You should have seen his whole head turn red on that! bigot is what he is.

If you're handy in the kitchen, then my recipes are there for you to enjoy. I really need to get my kibbe up there too. I don't think I posted it yet. Every country makes different Kibbe and in Iraq, I'm pretty sure you got the ones shaped like footballs and fried. We do it different in Syria.

If you want something specific, ask and I'll see where I can find a recipe for you. I found a great recipe book, The New Book of Middle Eastern Food by Claudia Roden. Everything in there is exactly how my grandmother's food tasted except for the spinach pies. Damn, now I'm hankering for some stuffed grape leaves.

I usually do a Middle Eastern feast for New Year's eve here and our friends go nuts over the stuff.

What was that stuff, I remember it was Tahini, or whatever that sesame seed powder was, but this was flavored with date syrup and had pistachios in it. I could google it but I am not sure if what I am looking for will turn up if I dunno what it is.

I do have an undying animosity and dislike of much of the Arab population, but I do like their food.

I would mostly like a list of spices and such. I remember having a chicken that was out of this world.

Well, mostly Allspice, cinnamon and ginger are tops in my spice cabinet but I'll see what I can dig up for you. That book I have should have a list. But you're not going to get it today Tongue - we're going out now the sun is out!

I don't know exactly what you're trying to describe but Tahini is a paste more like peanut butter than in a powder. I've never seen it in powder form but maybe they have it like that there now.

And I don't blame you with your attitude toward the Arabs - my family came here in the early 20th century to avoid the tyranny. We're fully American and they didn't even teach the kids to speak Arabic. You probably know more than me.

Look up my Tahini Cream Sauce over there and try that on your next burger instead of ketchup. Same with steak. You'll think you died and went to tastebud heaven.

Yea, that was what I was driving at. It's a powder made into a paste or I dunno, it tasted good. This was the paste, sort of like hummus, only it had date syrup and pistachios with other stuff. I know it had that. Name of it began with an 'H'.

This is the tea thread!

Hey! The English are here....which and what tea?
I like Typhoo and have to bring my own when I come over the Pond. I get weird looks when I go into Europe because tea is drunk with MILK!
Other half drinks it black...Earl Gray, Assam (I like that too) and all the fashion ones, like FireBush (no comment)
