I read through all that stuff. It does look like it would be lots of fun, only if it were a warm, clear, night.

Riding at night can be pretty cool. I've riden to work many times in the dark, as early as 3:30 am, I remember the clear summer nights, warm enough to just wear a t-shirt and the moonlight so bright I never turned on my headlight.

I rode with this group one time, lots of fun through the city at night. But these guys are crazy, all winter long, every Tuesday, in Rochester?!?!?!

Rochester is WAY too cold in winter. Hell up by you is worse!

I used to love midnight rides in the woods with my horse. I love the night.

I bookmarked that page for next year. It looks like fun.

I saved it too.

I always think about doing this one too, it's coming up in a couple of weekends and it just so happens that I'm on vacation that week.
I really hate to preregister for stuff, I'm not much fun in shitty weather. Also, this highlander thing, I'm not sure what ride I would want to do, double century, century, 80 miles, 37 miles, 40k mountain bike. Geeze, don't they have something about 60 miles. I'm not afraid of the hills, but you put the hills in with big miles and it beats me down. I'd be comfortable on the hills for about 60 miles.

BarEdul.... danger about the night is a learned condition. Seriously. Through the ages people have been taught to fear the night for one reason or the other. Predators - got them during daylight hours too. Robbers/muggers/murderers - got them things going on in broad daylight too.

Twist... the Finger Lakes region is gorgeous. We used to have at 50 mile trail ride there when I had the horses. From what I remember and where we rode (it was over 20 years ago I rode there) it was pretty hilly all over. Up the hill, ride a real short while on the flat then we go down, and up again flat and down then up, down, twist around and up and down again. See if you can get a map of the trails and get on google earth to see the terrain.

It is hilly, they say the glaciers carved the finger lakes and made the steep hills, blah, blah, blah, global warming fucking dope smoking hippy bullshit.
Anyway....I've rode some around the finger lakes, I've rode from my house to Geneva, NY, and then around Seneca lake the following day, and I've done Keyuka lake. Yep, it's kinda hilly around there.
Seneca lake is about 85 miles to go around it and is a pretty hilly mofo.

The areas you are talking about biking are glorious sounding. I would have loved to have done it at one point in my life. I did a biking honey moon on the emerald isle in North carolina in 1985.

As far as obvious predators go... we worry more about bears and Mountain Lions in the region I would ride in locally.
