A copy and paste quote from another site I'm on. I wont post my response to it here, since a certain someone would be upset by it Tongue

Kraken Wrote:A web security group known as Goatse (yes, that Goatse...) found a gaping flaw in the programming that allowed external computer systems to access the personal data for 114,000 iPad users.

Making matters worse is that many of these people who had their systems compromised were folks in high places... like Rahm frikkin' Emmanuel himself.

AT&T is doing what it can to plug the holes, but if I read the article right Apple hasn't moved beyond the "issue mass apologies" stage.

**

From what I've seen, Apple's vaunted advantage against crackers and viruses was really a product of them being so comparatively obscure and in such limited use compared to IBM-clones that there was simply no point in trying to cause havoc with them; they'd get more people and cause more damage by going after the folks with IBM-clones.

Now that Apple's products are smash hits and they're gaining considerable numbers of users each month, it might now be worth someone's time to start making noise. Apple really needs to get on the ball if they want to prevent any malicious breaches from taking place.

Well since I don't have an iPad why on earth would I get upset over your [predictable and usual] comment?

Surely you cannot be comparing the iPad to my iMac? I mean don't you think there would be tons of people outraged over security breeches on the Macs by now? Or is there some giant hush-up going on and anyone who 'outs' this stuff disappears?

Actually if you keep up with the tech sites like Vizzy and I do, you'll see Mac OSX security exploits about every 3 months. Then it takes them a month to 6 weeks to patch it, and a month to 6 weeks for something new to be found. Hence the 3 month usual cycle. But it doesn't get PRESS like the Windows does.

And I will give Apple credit for how quickly they patch, they do have a leg up on M$ there...

Of course, many of those patches don't originate with Apple themselves, they originate with teams of developers who maintain the packages for UNIX itself. Which is still fine.

But, why you'd be offended is because the iPad uses a very slimmed down MacOS... and mostly because I complained about you choosing your fancy looking iMac over a Linux PC that would do essentially the same thing (yeah, I know, repeating complaints already aired) though this time I did grant the fact that for your graphics work it really is the best machine you could own. So... not as bad as I was about it before Wink

No it's just ralgith geeking out over Linux.

I would have considered it if I were able to make a phone call for tech support 24/7 and if installing that wouldn't void any warranties on a new computer and if the graphics surpassed Apple's and I STILL dont' need any anti-virus or anti-spyware software, and if 6000 other negatives that outweighed the positives on my Apple for me.

While he lumps Vizzy in his geekiness, Vizzy isn't a militant Linux whore - he rags on all equally.

LOL, all I said was Vizzy and I both read the stuff, I didn't say Vizzy shares all my views Tongue

And Twitchy, for $65 per year (which you only get what? 3, 4, 5 years from Apple for free?) you still come out way ahead tech support wise Wink

Its the graphics and ONLY the graphics that really makes a Mac worth it for you. And if you don't have an AV on your Mac, you're just asking to get nailed. Macs have 18% of the virus market share as of the end of 2008, not sure what current figures are.

As for warranty, who the hell told you it voids your warranty? The only thing that voids your hardware warranty is opening the chassis.

Now relax. I admit it. For YOU, for what YOU do, a Mac really is best. Its just MOST people that buy Mac's that would be better off with a PC running Linux. You can even buy them with Linux pre-installed from both HP and Dell Wink

@twist
Goatse was originally goatse.cx - a SHOCK site that featured on the main page a man gaping his anus as wide as his hand. It was suspended.
Goatse Security uses the domain security.goatse.fr and is one of the top "White Hat Hacker" (aka PC Security via trying to break them to find the flaws) firms in the WORLD.
I'm not sure how they're related, but they are. As shown by the image below:
And that's the story behind why its a "big deal" Wink
