Up until 5 years ago serving on jury would have caused e GREAT financial hardship. Every job up till now would not pay me while serving and the ridiculous compensation from the courts ($15.00 a day) FAR from makes up for lost wages.
The company I work for now will pay me minimum rate for serving (sucky but liveable). In the past when I got a jury summons I simply told them that serving would be a financial burden and there was no problem being excused. The last time (about 2 years ago) I had made the arrangements with work and the court notified me that I wasn't needed. No biggie.
If I ever get chosen I'll go in ready to hear the case and evaluate the evidence even though I believe that the accused is likely guilty. Bottom line......if it quacks like a duck, unless there is compelling evidence to the contrary, it's a duck.
