Public opinion is what I'm after here.

Ok......the situation is this: I have a classic rock band, it WAS named Whippin Post but when the other band members mentioned the band name to their friends and acquaintances the vast majority came out with..."Oh, so you're an Allman Brothers tribute band?"

We need another name. Now we have a show coming up this Tuesday and were rather pressured to come up with something else and the (temporary) winner was Nytro.

Fine, well and good BUT, this name gives a connotation of a more metal oriented band and we aren't.

We have several good possibilities and I'd just like to get some input.

The scene is this: You are a classic rock (and southern fried rock) fan and are looking to go see a NEW cover band. Which name would stand out and simply by virtue of the name let you know that this is what the band is all about?

Old Skool (Yes...the mis-spelling is on purpose)......(Btw...this is the leader of the pack so far)
No Limit
Strike 6
High Gear
Lucid Moment
Anomoly
Warp 10
Fractured Reality
Slightly Bent
Avarice

Bear in mind that this is a collection of older musicians
(ages 56-53-51-50-43 and the "baby" is 36).

We play Rolling Stones, Beatles, Jethro Tull, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Outlaws, Alice Cooper, Boxtops, Pure Prairie League, The Who, Greg Kinh, Santana, Doobie Brothers etc.

I'd do a poll but I really would like to hear opinions more.

Thanks for the help!

I say go with your nick on here LKTraz for the name of the band.

Do they know you use this name on forums? If not, toss it up to them.

I don't think you need a name that reflects the type of music you play because the promos at the bar already do that for you. If they like you they'll pass your name along to friends to go watch and you'll get your following fast enough and name be known.

Also, I think every band you mentioned as a "taste" of what you do has a dead member in it. How about:
Belly Up?
Oh and stay away from Old Skool - too teeny bopper with all those dopey movies out there now and kids thinking they are indeed "old school" wot

In this area folks tend to label a band by the "sound" of their name.

It's widely known that LKTraz is my nickname in these parts (henceforth I use it as my internet nick) so that would be a no go.

Where am I missing all the dead guy references?

The bars and clubs around here are not very good at promotion. They simply put up on the marquee that *insert band name here* is here from blah blah time to blah time on such and such a date.

I think you misread that stuff there DaBull. LOL Rustic Flowers sounds a little foofy, no? That'd be great if they're doing San Fran hippie rock.

Stone, Beatles, Who all have dead guys. I think Doobies do as well. That's the dead references.

LOL call yourselves Rock Band! Straight up and to the point, covers it all.
Can you tell I'm not thrilled with the names you provided to pick from?

Angus's Underpants?
Digging Up Relics?
Time Warp?
Warped Time?

So much for Time Warp......it's already copyrighted as a band name.

You see....the list I provided has already been checked and cleared as far as any copyrights or any uses by recording companies or promoters/production companies for band names.
On that note......my lead guitarist suggested "Smokehouse" but the FORMER lead guitarist is now in a band who has that name copyrighted. It doesn't help that the guy lives only 2 miles away from me, and we're still friends! LOL
