Some know No1 son is an Apprentice at an Aerospace Engineering company. He is doing really well, which such a relief after all the problems he has had in the last 2 years. Aww

His friends are not so lucky.
One is in and out of work like a Yo-Yo. He tries really hard but after the trial period he is never kept on. He went for an interview to drive a public bus. I don't know what he expected but it consisted of being put in a van and asked to drive around a circuit. He complained to the examiner the clutch was heavy. He was asked what vehicles he has driven. He has only ever driven his Corsa since he passed his driving test!
He didn't get the job.

Today Ceris called (school friend) to say she had an interview at a Baby nursery- 0-18 months. 'I get to wear slippers all day!' she said excitedly.
'Why?' asked No1 son. 'Is it so you don't hurt them when you tread on them?'
(she lasted a day at the Vets for treading on a patient)

'No! It so it is quiet when they go to sleep'
'And you don't tread on them'

As you can see he is very suppportive. Dodgy

Poor kids. Don't they get to pick a career they want for life and just get a job doing that? With the proper education of course.

someone has to explain to them you shouldn't whine to the proctor on tests - it's a guarantee to failure!

Do any of us get to pick the job we want? I sure the hell never figured I'd be boiling water out of milk for a living.

Some of us do. I chose to be a cosmetologist. Matt chose his profession. Many other people I know chose what they want to be. I see your point though, but the way Trudi describes it, "someone" is picking career paths for the kids playing hit and miss until one sticks per kid. Kind of like if they don't go out and get a specialized degree, they "apprentice" until they find something suitable.

Even if a person does pick their own career, many times it ends up not being what one expected. Blah

Successful job interviews consist of showcasing your strengths.

I worked for a company for 8 years, the first three the boss didn't expect much because I told them I didn't know anything about the job, He decided to train me so, I developed a lot of talent.

I worked for myself for 25 years, The boss was a dick, but I managed to pursuade him that I had talent.

I worked for an indian tribe for 9 years, the boss was a dick, but I managed to convince him I had talent.

I worked for a start up compnay for the last three years, the boss was a dick but I managed to convince him I had talent.

I'm leaving that job monday and starting a new job for more money and better benefits, so far this boss is ok and he convinced me I have talent.

Give the youngsters time, they will learn what all of this means.

A resolution to avoid an evil is seldom framed till the evil is so far advanced as to make avoidance impossible.

You realize you just called yourself a dick?

Ya, I was a slave driver, 15/16 hour days 6 and 7 days a week were the norm.

I treated myself bad, I was a dick, but I had talent and youth I knew the youth part would not last.

Ah now that makes sense. Just making sure you knew what you were saying or I'd have pointed you to the drunk posting thread. Biggrin

I have a work ethic like that. It kills me to leave a small part of a job for the next day when I know if I take another couple hours I can move onto something different tomorrow.

That's the problem with working for yourself. You get paid the least, the hours are brutal, and you're the one the buck stops with.

I love the people who thinks it's glamorous and that you must be rich, um yeah.

No paid vacation, no paid time off, no paid insurance benefits and a nice stack of bills to pay every month.
