JURY DUTY! - Twitchin Kitten - 10-06-2015

So I got called to jury duty this week. Didn't have to report yesterday, but today I go in at 9AM.

I'm kind of hoping I get picked because sitting in that pool room with the dregs of the earth does not appeal to me. I'd kind of like to mete out justice too Spiteful

I'ma try to get some pictures - they'll be crappy because for some reason my phone camera sucks.

I'm also going to try for being the "head" of the jury if I get to sit on a case. Why not? Might as well make it as interesting as I can within the parameters of freedom they give me!

OOOH I got picked for a good one! Attempted murder trial. And they threw in an unlawful weapons charge too.

Not sure if I'll stay. Seems they picked a lot of the jurors yesterday and last week and then as they interview the entire pool, they ditch someone else. To me it looks like they are eliminating anyone who watches cop shows on TV and the men. I don't like that they announced our full names though. Why bother with numbers if they're going to give accused murderers our names? So back to it tomorrow until they are satisfied with the jury selection. It's kind of exciting.

I like jury duty. Give picked and give them hell.

You could make it like that movie runaway jury that would be awesome.

Or 12 angry men and drag it out for weeks!

RE: JURY DUTY! - Twitchin Kitten - 10-07-2015

Twist, I am picked. The trick now is to stay picked.

Well the trial started! Some things took a different twist since opening arguments from my first impression. First two witnesses pretty much blew it IMO and for the life of me I don't know why the defending lawyer was allowed to lead the witness the entire time. It was like watching a Monty Python court skit.

So, now the judge is going to let us bring some food, snacks and other things to keep in the jury room. I got a feeling we're not going to be allowed to go outside for lunch like they let us today. The trial didn't quite start by lunch time so we had lunch and then began and they managed to get 2 witnesses in before end of court at 4:30. Not bad.
I think we have Fridays and Mondays off because those are motion days. Good. The car needs maintenance!

Don't those cheap ass bastards feed you??

RE: JURY DUTY! - LKTraz - 10-07-2015

Hell no Twist. They don't pay you diddly squat either.

It varies with each jusidiction but it can be as little as $20.00/day Some will pay you mileage but either you have to travel X distance one way or it's a piddling 12 cents/mile.

Again it all depends on the particular jurisdiction. Now my job will pay me if I serve so I really don't give a shit if I get picked (and I was last year). I also was on standby this year for Federal duty but never had to even report in, just check each week on their website.

None of my other jobs would pay so I wiggled out of it on the basis that it would create a financial hardship for my family.

Feed us?! Hell no. I'd bring my own anyway.

Compensation - $5 / day for the first 3 days then $40 / day until the end. Took them until today to put water out for us. We all brought our own
