Season Two just ended last May I think. There will, of course, be a season three.
The show follows the books extremely accurately. I couldn't wait for season three, so I bought all of the books, and read them all. I will say this much, shit you don't expect happens.
My favorite two characters are Arrya Stark, and Jon Snow.

I think I made it up to book four. I started reading them about 10 years ago, had that looooooong wait after book 3 and book 4 was boring as hell. I lost my taste for it after that but I really did enjoy the show. I'm hoping that somehow Sandor isn't really dead, his character grew on me.

Yea, I think they waited a bit too long to start the real character development of the Hound in the series. And I really do hope he isn't dead, because he did grow on me as well. Thing is with these series, is you dunno who will die and be cut from the story (Robb -- WTF), who'll live, and what they'll do. It's riveting.
Book four did get a bit boring - all they did was focus on King's Landing, Brienne, and that bitch Cersei. The only part of that book I relished was that Jaime was changing and reconsidering what oaths, honor and decency meant to an extent, and Cersei getting stuck in jail where that crazy bitch belongs. I chuckled out loud at work when I was reading the bit on break where Jaime ignored her message crying for help. That was the clincher that Jaime was really different.
I hope book five is better - I really liked to hear of that moron Daenerys being a moron, Jon Snow commanding the Wall (I was riveted to the book through the parts of book three where he was defending it against the Wildlings -- I think Snow is destined for very great things in the future and I don't feel like he'll be killed off anytime soon -- just a hunch!), where the hell is Bran going, and who Coldhands was, etc. BTW, I think Coldhands might be Benjen Stark -- remember how he disappeared on a ranging North of the Wall? Coldhands was dressed in the Night's Watch blacks, and I don't think Martin will leave his story unfinished in the books. The last bit of book four discussed that book four was centered around King's Landing and that area of Westeros, whereas book five is all about The Wall, The Dragons, Bran, Arrya, and such.
The "Ironmen" are stupid.

I've forgotten a lot of the characters... are the Ironmen those sailors with designs on the throne? They bored me although I did like the female warrior a little. Sansa is a blithering idiot and I've got no sympathy for her constant crises although Littlefinger is seriously creepy. No actress and script in the world could portray Cersei nearly as loathsome and heinous as she is in the book, it's just not possible. God, I hate that character. The kid they got to play Joffrey though... he's amazing. He's not nearly as pretty as the book makes him out to be, but my god, that sneering little weasel face is so perfect.
I grew to love the actress playing Catelyn but I wish they could have had younger actors playing the Stark parents. As good as Sean Bean is, he looks OLD... like grandfather old.

other than my SOP copy of my signature to cover the Data Protection Act. Looks as if I'm not finished and the deadline is getting too close!

fuckit...my series watching has fallen behind seriously. Still on Breaking Bad season 4. Game of Thrones is waiting. My girlfriend is making me watch True Blood too. Think we need to pick up on season 4 with that. I got as far as 3 episodes of Flash Forward.

For some reason, a 'discussion' that happened at another forum from around Christmas of last year popped into my head this morning. A woman was complaining bitterly about her poor son being stationed at the 'shithole' USMC base in Hawaii... too far to walk to downtown, poor neighborhood right outside the base, that big meany Obama fucking up his plans to golf on Christmas.
What. A. Fucking. Asshole.
Is there any base, anywhere in the world that's in a 'nice' neighborhood? And this is a marine that survived Afghanistan, I doubt walking past some hookers is gonna bother him. And that whole whine about Obama playing golf on a military base in his home state... Jesus Christ, lady, he's the president of the United fucking States. Your son's a marine. Duh.
