Another one that I see especially on Facebook... someone will take a photo of an adorable puppy, just a generic photo, and add a message of how mistreated it's been, how sad it is and how much it needs a home. While the thought behind this is worthy, it's all a bunch of sentimental claptrap centered around a fake situation. I've seen the same photo used on a fucking calendar, you bunch of idiots. All the homeless animals in the world and they've got to snag a professionally taken photo of someone's pampered pet.

They are attempting to goad you into taking action, by using your own sense of morality against yourself. After all, you are partially to blame for enjoying all the benefits of a society you inhabit. It is your duty to make the world better. Even if you do this with yourself, it is not enough, and must be carried out for the good of the larger whole.
I see this all the time when I go into a retail store, or grocery. When I arrive at the counter to pay for what I want, I get hit upon to contribute to this, or that, and it is done in such a manner that I am supposed to feel guilt for not showing my altruism to people, animals, environment, or whatever cause de Jure at the moment.
As a heartless son of a bitch, who has taken enough, I loudly proclaim that I am having enough trouble taking care of myself, and if I do contribute, it will be through my church. That shuts them up immediately. It seems that the tougher the times, the more I get hit up for not contributing more to the Collective. If I do, I will contribute it somewhere where it used most efficiently. Someplace like the Salvation Army, which has the most efficient chartable system of them all.

The cashiers always seem surprised when I contribute. One of the big pet food stores have little bundles of a canned food, a toy and a treat that you buy and it gets sent to the local animal shelter. I usually buy several and it always gets a seemingly heartfelt thank you. I don't mind getting hit up for donations, especially animal causes, it's the numbskulls on facebook that post these meaningless photos that aren't attached to any charity and that get other numbskulls saying shit like "oh that poor puppy, I hope it finds a good home" when these are obviously stock photos that someone added a manipulative saying to. I'm apparently not explaining this very well...
Okay, here's an example. Imagine someone added text to this photo like "I'm lost and alone and I'm so hungry"
